The Immigration Services Agency of Japan publishes the "list of Japanese language courses offered by Japanese language institutions" (for reference), the results of asking institutions across Japan whether they can provide post-entry courses, A1-equivalent courses and A2-target courses for the Employment for Skill Development system. How can I find Japanese language institutions that offer post-entry or A1/A2 Japanese courses online?

In "Japanese courses for Employment for Skill Development", set the delivery method to "Online" to show the schools that answered in the course list that they offer courses online. You can combine this with the course level (A1-equivalent / A2-target), prefecture and institution category. The list is reference information as of the survey, so check the content and conditions of online courses directly with each school.

When does the Employment for Skill Development system start, and what happens to supervising organizations?

According to the "Employment for Skill Development System Q&A" of the Immigration Services Agency of Japan, the system takes effect on April 1, 2027. Technical intern trainees who have entered Japan by that date, and trainees whose training plan certification was applied for before that date and who start training within three months of it (by June 30, 2027), among others, can continue their technical intern training after that date. To handle Employment for Skill Development work as a supervising and support organization, a supervising organization must newly obtain a supervising and support organization permit; applications have been accepted since April 15, 2026, before the system takes effect. What is the difference between a notified institution (kokuji school) and a certified Japanese language institution?

A notified institution is a Japanese language institution listed in the Ministry of Justice notice (the so-called Student notice). The Immigration Services Agency of Japan publishes the list as schools that can accept international students with the Student status of residence. A certified Japanese language institution is one certified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology under the Japanese Language Educational Institutions Certification Act. Its courses are divided into study, work and daily life, and MEXT publishes the list. Some schools are on both lists.
